Getting There

  • Via Pokhara (bus or flight from Kathmandu), then local bus (~NPR 200) or shared jeep (NPR 600–1,000) to trailheads: Nayapul, Jhinu, Ghandruk, Kande.
  • The classic Annapurna Base Camp route: Nayapul → Ghorepani → Chhomrong → Deurali → MBC → ABC (4,130 m), typically 7–10 days.

Typical Budgets

  • On-trail: ~NPR 3,500–5,000/day (₹2,200–3,100) all-in — teahouse room (NPR 500–1,500), meals, tea. Prices rise with altitude.
  • Mid-range: ~NPR 6,000–9,000/day (₹3,750–5,600) — better lodges, hot showers, device charging.
  • Licensed guide ~$25–35/day (~₹2,100–3,000); porter ~$18–25/day.

Practical Tips

  • Permits for SAARC/Indian trekkers: ACAP NPR 1,000 + TIMS NPR 1,000 = NPR 2,000 (~₹1,250). Get them at the Nepal Tourism Board office in Pokhara.
  • Since April 2023, TIMS is officially issued only via registered agencies with a licensed guide — don’t assume you can sort it solo at the counter.
  • Carry ALL cash in NPR from Pokhara — there are no ATMs on the trail.
  • Purify water instead of buying bottled; skip meat above ~3,000 m and alcohol at altitude.
  • Keep one buffer day for weather or AMS — ABC is 4,130 m and not zero-risk.

What I Wish I Knew

The teahouses are the experience, not just the beds. Eat the dal bhat, talk to the families running them, and don’t rush past the villages.

Permits & Notes

  • ACAP + TIMS mandatory. Passport photocopies + 2 photos needed for permits.
  • Avoid Jun–Aug (monsoon: leeches, landslides, no views); winter above Deurali can be snowbound.
