Getting There

• From Delhi: overnight bus to Joshimath (₹1,000–₹1,200, 12–14h) or train/bus to Haridwar–Rishikesh, then shared taxi/bus onward to Joshimath.
• From Joshimath: ropeway to Auli (₹750–₹1,000 return, ~22–25 min, last ride ~4–5:30pm) or road 16 km by taxi/shared cab.
• Nearest airport: Dehradun (Jolly Grant), ~280 km; nearest railhead: Haridwar/Rishikesh.

Typical Budgets

• Backpacker: ₹1,200–₹2,000/day — GMVN dormitory, Joshimath stays, dhaba food, ropeway one day.
• Mid-range: ₹3,000–₹6,000/day — hotel/resort room, ski rental and lessons.

Practical Tips

• Ropeway tickets are sold at the Joshimath counter only, same day — reach early in peak season (Dec–Jan) or queues eat your morning.
• GMVN Auli runs beginner ski courses Jan–Mar; independent instructors and gear rental on the slopes cost ~₹1,000–₹1,500/day for equipment.
• Joshimath stays are much cheaper than Auli — many travelers base there and ride up for the day.
• Weather flips fast; keep a buffer day if you’re on a tight return schedule.

What I Wish I Knew

• The ropeway is worth doing even if you never touch skis. Also: January prices and crowds are peak — late February is the sweet spot.
