Getting around
Most expeditions fly to Mineralnye Vody and drive to the Baksan valley towns of Terskol and Azau. From Azau, lifts and huts lead to high camps around 3,800 to 4,100 metres, from where climbers make acclimatisation rotations before a summit push. The north side is wilder, with no lifts and a more committing route. Most climbers join guided groups. Check current travel guidance before planning.
