Netarhat is called the Queen of Chotanagpur, and honestly, the name fits. The bus ride from Ranchi climbs through forests that get thicker and greener as you go up, and by the time we reached Netarhat the air felt completely different — cool, pine-scented, quiet. I pressed my face to the bus window like a kid, watching the sal forests roll past.
I timed it to reach by evening, and that first sunset from Magnolia Point sold me on the whole trip. The sun drops behind layers of hills and the whole valley turns gold. The next morning I woke up at 5:30 for the sunrise — freezing, but worth every shiver. A thin mist sat in the valley below, and for a few minutes the whole world was just pink light and silence.
What struck me most was how uncrowded it was. In November I shared the viewpoints with maybe a dozen people. The local kids selling roasted corn near the sunset point were the friendliest part of the trip. It’s a simple place — no malls, no cafes, just hills and sky — and that’s exactly its charm. On the bus back to Ranchi, I was already planning a return trip in the rains, when the waterfalls around Netarhat come alive.
