Travelling with two kids (9 and 6) changed every decision — and honestly made the trip better. One base in Srinagar, two day trips: one hotel, one unpacking, no lost-shoe mornings.
Gulmarg day started at 8 AM in a shared cab. The kids were grumpy until the meadow opened up — then it was all running and shouting. The Gondola (Phase 1, ₹800 a head) was the highlight, and because I’d booked online we walked past an hour-long queue. Book online. I’m serious.
Pahalgam needed more planning: outside taxis can’t do the valley circuit, so you must take a local cab from the Pahalgam taxi stand (₹1,600 for Aru + Betaab). Nobody tells you this until you’re standing there. Betaab Valley (₹100/adult) was the kids’ favourite — open space, the river, room to be loud.
We were back in Srinagar both evenings by 6, eating dinner at our regular dhaba. No exhausted kids, no regrets.

- In winter, only chained vehicles go beyond Tangmarg — confirm with your driver the night before.

Is the Gondola safe for a 5-year-old? Any age restrictions?
My 6-year-old loved it and there were younger kids in our cabin. Phase 1 is a smooth, enclosed ride — I’d just hold small kids close at boarding since the cabins keep moving slowly.
Can we do Gulmarg in the morning and Pahalgam the same afternoon to save a day?
Please don’t — especially with kids. Each is a full day with 2+ hours of driving each way. You’ll spend the whole day in a car and enjoy neither place.
