The Jan Shatabdi left Delhi at 6:45am; I stepped out of Haridwar station by 11. Shared autos to Rishikesh lined up right outside — ₹70, squeezed in with four others. By noon I was in my Tapovan dorm.
Day one was all free stuff: Ram Jhula, the lanes, and the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat in the evening. Sitting on those steps with hundreds of people, watching the diyas float — it genuinely resets your head.
Day two was rafting. Our hostel had an operator tie-up; ~₹600 for the 16 km Shivpuri stretch with gear and guide. March water is cold but the rapids are fun, and the cliff jump was the trip’s highlight. Back by lunch, napped, then Beatles Ashram — the graffiti-covered meditation cells are weirder and cooler than expected.
Day three was slow: free morning yoga at the hostel, Neer Garh waterfall, one last café lunch before the evening Shatabdi. No Delhi traffic trauma — home by midnight, tired in the best way.

Is the Jan Shatabdi reliable in March, or does fog delay it?
March is fine — fog is mostly a Dec–Jan problem. Mine ran on time both ways.
Did the hostel dorm have lockers? Worried about my laptop.
Yes, most dorms in Tapovan have lockers — but carry your own small padlock just in case.
Is the 16 km rafting okay for someone who can’t swim?
Totally — you wear a life jacket and the guide explains everything. Tell them you’re a non-swimmer and they’ll seat you mid-raft.
